Ellen Junn– Higher Ed Equity Strategist

Dr. Ellen Junn retired as President Emerita of California State University, Stanislaus (2016-2023). This CSU located in CA’s Central Valley enrolls many first-generation, Pell-eligible, women, and historically underrepresented students. Under her leadership, the university earned regional and national recognition for social mobility, affordability, and transformational, equity-based student experiences.

Dr. Junn served 37 years with the CSU as provost, associate provost and other senior positions at five other CSU campuses. She holds a bachelor’s degree in cognitive psychology, cum laude, from the University of Michigan, master’s and doctoral degrees in cognitive psychology from Princeton University, and a management development certificate from Harvard University.

Her research and publications focus on early childhood education and advocacy, college teaching effectiveness, faculty development, and educational equity and diversity. She serves as a Commissioner for WSCUC and WICHE and Advisory Council member for the California Education Learning Lab. She is the first Korean American woman appointed president of a four-year public institution in the United States.
